As the days and nights get colder, and the festive season gets into full swing, its ever more tempting to pop in for a warm and welcoming drink on your way home from a hard day’s work or shopping! With so much to choose from, it can be quite the task deciding where to go and what to drink. So to make things easier, we asked five of our favourite bars in Edinburgh to tell us about their best winter warmer cocktail. Consider this your own private cocktail menu!

Sloe Gin Fizz – The Voyage of Buck

Christmas is cause for celebration and what better way than with bubbles! The Sloe Gin Fizz from The Voyage of Buck takes a classic Sour cocktail and then twists it in their unique way to give it a festive flair. Sweetened with their homemade dandelion and burdock cordial and finished with seasonal fruits and spices, this cocktail is perfect accompaniment to your Christmas party.

The Wish Fulfilment –  The Devil’s Advocate

The Wish Fulfilment is a delicious winter warmer from The Devil’s Advocate.  A tasty combination of Nikka Japanese Whisky, plum sake, our homemade ginger bitters and a generous shaving of nutmeg.   Blow torched to order in our copper cups, the Nikka Whisky gives the drink body, with plum sake adding the festive dry fruits, whilst the ginger bitters and nutmeg give the spice to warm up anyone visiting The Devil’s Advocate this winter.

Chocolate Negroni – Hamilton’s

During the long winter nights there is nothing better than tucking your feet up under you on the sofa, and curling around a short and strong drink. The quintessential drink of the gentleman’s drawing room has to be the Negroni. Hamilton’s have made theirs with chocolate and orange for extra indulgence.

Berry Merry Christmas – Dine Edinburgh

Strong on festive colours and warming on the taste buds, Dine’s Merry Berry Christmas is the ideal winter tonic and post-Christmas shopping treat. Winter cocktails don’t need to be heavy and gin combined with cherry brandy, green apple liqueur, zesty lime juice creates a complex yet refreshing indulgent drink.

Chocolate Bourbon – Monteith’s

A silky blend of Jim Beam Double Oak Bourbon, milk chocolate, whole milk & golden syrup, the Chocolate Bourbon at Monteith’s is the perfect grown-up take on a Hot Chocolate. It’s warm, it’s Chocolatey and it’s garnished with a toasted marshmallow. What more do you need on these cold winter nights?!?
