The popularity of street food in the UK has increased significantly in the last couple of years and with it, the number of traders selling quick, easy and delicious food. Edinburgh has now joined in on the fun with The Pitt Street Market which aims to bring together small independent businesses from across the city, to one dedicated venue to celebrate their amazing food. Throw in some live music, a cool industrial-chic outdoor venue, a late closing time of 10pm plus plenty of atmosphere, and you have the makings of a great food market!

The founders of the market, Hal Prescott and Scott Kirkham, were inspired by the bustling food markets they had seen in other European and Asian cities. They wanted to create a food market that had a great atmosphere and supported local fledgling businesses. Pitt Street market offers aspiring chefs and creators the chance to launch and test their ideas, which makes it the perfect place for you to try some amazing new food! There aren’t many other places in the city where you can get a 3 course gourmet dinner for under £15!

Since opening in December 2015, the market has become a regular fixture in the calendar for anyone in the city who appreciates great eats. The market offers a really diverse range of food and drink, with traders and businesses changing each month. Previous small businesses at the market include dessert connoisseurs (and multiple award winners) The Crema Caravan; shellfish and ‘obscure cuts of meat’ specialists Barnacles & Bones; family-owned business The Mighty Mexican; and Edinburgh favourites The Marshmallow Lady and Umami Spice Girl. The whole family is welcome along, dogs included, and entrance to the market is only £1.
