Lateral City are happy to announce the newest addition to their portfolio of luxury serviced apartments; The Edinburgh Grand. Located in the south-east corner of St Andrew Square, the neo-classical building is being renovated and restored to house 50 luxury apartments.
Like all of the Lateral City portfolio, the Edinburgh Grand is situated in a building of historical significance. The former National Bank of Scotland, built between 1936 and 1942 and a World Heritage Site will be the home to the new development. Only minutes away from the buzzing George Street and just a short walk away from the Royal Mile and the attractions of the Old Town, it is an ideal base from which to explore the city. The building itself is a striking sandstone structure with a vast interior featuring marble columns, bronze balustrades and dark wood detailing.
During the renovation project, many of the original features of the building will be incorporated into the new design. The Edinburgh Grand will combine the traditional heritage of the building with a contemporary but decadent décor; clean, modern fixtures and fittings will be offset against the amazing architecture. The apartments will feature an elegant colour palette of olive greens and teal blues whilst furnishings will be of velvet and leather. Bathrooms will pay tribute to the original geometric black and white flooring that was so characteristic to the original building. Apartments will range in size and include unique qualities to each; from the wood-panelled Grand Studio Apartments to the 3-bedroom rooftop Penthouse with unrivalled city views.
Other features include the bank vaults being transformed into a well-equipped gym, and a renovated circular atrium area, again preserving the original features of the building. Alongside the luxury apartments, the building will also be home to a new bar and restaurant located in the former banking hall. A coffeehouse and evening venue, run by the team behind the renowned Bon Vivant, will offer late-night entertainment and dining. Further retail outlets are also planned for the site and will be announced in due time.
The Edinburgh Grand is due to be completed by the summer of 2017. Find out more.
